Purpose of the course: The purpose of this class is to build student English language skills in order to be redesignated as a Fluent English Speaker.

Course Objectives: By the end of the year, you should be redesignated. You should be able to understand directions and complete assignments as required. You should be able to express your ideas during group discussions as well as your peers.


Student Goals:

  • Build English language skills in phonics, vocabulary, reading strategies, expression orally and in writing.

  • Develop higher level thinking skills to compare and contrast, analyze, evaluate, identify, explain and reflect as specified in the Common Core Standards.

  • Score a 4 or 5 on the CELDT test

  • Pass the district writing assessment

  • Score proficient or above on the state test.

Grades: Your grades will be determined by your individual progress since the students in this class are at different levels of English acquisition. Your progress will be based on participation, effort, and demonstration of mastery of content through formative and summative assessment.
